Oleksandr Usyk beats challenger Tony Bellew to retain his world champion belts
Thousands of Ukrainian boxing fans helped pack the Manchester Arena in the UK, where Ukrainian cruiserweight boxer, Oleksandr Usyk, knocked out Britain’s challenger, Tony Bellew.
It was a hard-fought contest over eight rounds, with the Briton, Bellew, taking the lead early on only two lose it in later rounds as the Ukrainian ground down his resistance, eventually knocking Bellew out in the eighth round.
Usyk is now the undisputed cruiserweight champion, holding all five champion belts at this weight division. After his win, Usyk proclaimed his intention to take on British world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua. That would be a big step up for the Ukrainian, but cruiserweight champion’s have become heavyweight champions in the past, in the famous name of Evander Holyfield.
